Loving the Skin You’re In – Look Good & Feel Good

STOP letting the date on your driver’s license define you! Regardless of your age, there is no better time to embrace your true beauty – from the outside and from the inside. It’s time to love the skin you’re in right now!

As a society, we go through cycles of being “image obsessed” and wanting to stay 29 forever to the other extreme of letting “nature take its course”. No matter the decade you currently reside in, the most important thing you can do is cultivate a positive image of who you are today. Everyday Health  suggests several tips on how we can look our best.

Don’t waste your precious energy or time worrying about how you looked or felt 5 or even 10 years ago. Think about how you look and feel TODAY and what you can do to look and feel your best NOW. After all, look good, feel good and feel good, look good. It goes both ways! Here’s my list of tips for making the best of what you’ve got EVERY DAY.

Feel Good

  • Take a daily sea buckthorn supplement (of course)
    • Sea buckthorn is a super fruit packed with over 190 bioactive compounds including omega fatty acids 3, 6, 7 and 9, over 60 anti-oxidants, vitamins, trace minerals, flavonoids, carotenoids and more.
    • Sea buckthorn is the worlds’ richest source of omega 7 which supports healthy function of many of the key systems of the body including cardiovascular, digestive, urogenital, and metabolic. It is also the key building block for healthy skin, hair and nails from the inside.
    • TRY SIBU’S OMEGA-7 PURE! One ounce a day as a straight shot or blended in to your favorite morning smoothie will boost both health and beauty!Exercise regularly
  • Exercise Regularly
  • Eat a well-balanced, healthy diet
    • There are 5 food groups and more healthy options than you can possibly count. Get creative and DON’T DEPRIVE YOURSELF! Eat so that when you really want that chocolate chip cookie it doesn’t become a deal breaker. (hint: If your body is getting what it needs from healthy sources, you are less likely to crave that cookie.)
  • Drink plenty of water
    • There is controversy over the actual benefits that drinking a minimum of 64 oz of water/day can have on the skin. This article from the University of Wisconsin Madison explains very well the importance of staying hydrated – and it’s about more than just the skin.
  • Smile!
    • Not only does a smile increase your “face” value, it positively affects everyone around you AND it can boost your health!

Look Good

Some of you may have been blessed with amazing genetics and you don’t really have to do anything to have great looking skin. The rest of us however do have to put forth a bit of effort. That effort, if focused in the right areas and combined with all of the above, can really pay off. Here are a couple of things to keep in mind.

  • WASH YOUR FACE EVERY NIGHT BEFORE YOU GO TO BED!

Ok, I’ve gotten that off my chest. Our skin is exposed to so much during the course of our day and it deserves a nice, clean restful state to recover and prepare for what’s up next. A gentle gel cleanser or even a nourishing bar soap like SIBU’s Cleansing Face & Body Bar will remove the dirt, oil and impurities that collect on the skin throughout the day. Lather up before bed and your skin will thank you in the morning!

  • Skincare doesn’t have to be complicated to be effective

Maybe you’re in to the 10 step skincare routine – good for you! But maybe you prefer minimalism. It’s ok! The key is to find a routine that you can commit to and that fits in to your lifestyle. Taking care of your skin should be all about self love – cue the bubble bath and candles – and doing something that makes you feel (and look) better.

    • The skincare MINIMUM
      • Cleanse (we’ve already talked about this)
      • Hydrate: A good daytime face cream like SIBU’s Nourishing Face Cream can be used morning and night. This light-weight face lotion does a lot more than leave your skin looking and feeling great. Daily use will strengthen your skins natural ability to retain needed moisture. When the skins’ lipid barrier is strong, the skin stays looking and feeling good all day long.
    • The skincare “I WANT / NEED MORE” – If you are concerned with the signs of age that are creeping in around the corners of your eyes or the dark spots that tell tales of younger days in the sun, you might want to get onboard with adding a few key steps to your routine.  Here are some suggestions:
      • Facial Serum: a serum is a lightweight moisturizer that penetrates deeper to deliver active ingredients to your skin.   SIBU’s Hydrating Face Serum has Hyaluronic acid for that deep hydration and sea buckthorn fruit extract to provide vitamin C to brighten the skin and to help boost collagen production.
      • Night Cream: if your skin is dry and seems to be getting drier as you get a bit older, a night cream is the way to go. Night creams are richer in texture and provide benefits even beyond hydration. Rejuvenating Night Cream enhances your skin’s nightly natural repair process. Infused with cruciferous (plant) ingredients, it stimulates the skins natural cell renewal cycle. The skins ability to retain moisture is strengthened, fine lines and wrinkles appear smoother and visible sun damage is reduced with nightly use. Just like SIBU’s Nourishing Face Cream, the Rejuvenating Night Cream can be used both day and night if your skin needs extra hydration.
      • Eye Cream: The skin around our eyes is thinner and more delicate than they rest of our skin. Applying a specific eye cream to the eye area morning and night can help reduce the appearance of the fine lines and wrinkles in this area. SIBU Age Defying Eye Cream has sea berry and pumpkin seed oils to hydrate and firm the skin. Cruciferous (plant) ingredients go to work to lessen the appearance of dark circles and reduce under-eye puffiness. A little goes a long way with eye cream and you want to be sure and always use a gentle touch so as not to over manipulate this more delicate skin.
      • Facial Oils: I saved the best for last! A good, quality facial oil can be a game-changer in the way your skin looks and feels. There are a lot to choose from out there and we suggest you always look for quality, unadulterated ingredients to get the most bang for your buck. Sea Berry Seed Oil has been used for centuries as a beauty and healing oil. Packed with vitamin E and omega 3 fatty acids, this golden “miracle oil” helps reduced the signs of visible sun damage and fine lines and wrinkles. Be sure to use facial oils before lotions or creams and after lighter weight serums. I might also suggest alternating am / pm use with your serum.

So there you have it! You need to feel good to look good, and you need to look good to feel good.  It is possible and it’s all about YOU – right now! At the risk of sounding cliché, enjoy the journey, YOUR journey and love every part of it (wrinkles and all)!

Wear RED (and Think Sea Berry ORANGE) for Heart Health

Tuesday, February 2, 2018 is National Wear Red Day.  Fifteen years ago nearly 500,000 lives of American women were being claimed by heart disease.  This frightening statistic prompted the American Heart Association and the National Heart, Lung and Blood institute to take action creating the first National Wear Red Day in February, 2005.  Now, each year on the first Friday in February we raise awareness of heart disease and stroke in women by wearing RED, the color of our hearts.

SIBU takes special interest in heart health as we are THE “Sea Buckthorn Company”.  No, sea buckthorn isn’t red, but in our world, “ORANGE is the new red”!  Our mission at SIBU is to provide whole body health and beauty through the power of sea buckthorn via nutritional supplements and natural skincare products; and this includes heart health!

In an article released by Nutra Ingredients – USA, on Jan. 31, 2018, they discuss a recent study regarding the anti-oxidant and cardiovascular benefits of sea buckthorn berries.  The berry contains over 190 bioactive compounds including omega fatty acids 3, 6, 9, and Omega 7, more than 60 anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, carotenoids, flavonoids and more.

Also noteworthy is a study by Dr. Yan Jun Xu, where he sights sea buckthorn as a “promising plant for reducing cardiovascular disease risk”.

SIBU provides Omega 7 Sea Buckthorn supplements in juice and soft gel form to provide you with all of the benefits of sea buckthorn.  Educate yourself on the power of sea buckthorn and Omega 7 and all it has to offer you.  Wear RED and think ORANGE and you’ll be well on your way to better cardiovascular health!

Omega 7 for Dogs

Written by Guest Blogger, Vanessa Chung with SimpleWag

We all know that omega fatty acids are essential to our health. But did you know our pups need these fatty acids as well?

Fish oil for dogs is a great way to incorporate many essential fatty acids into our pup’s diet since it does provide omega-3s and omega-6s. However, there is one omega that doesn’t get the credit it deserves: omega-7. While fish oil isn’t a great source of omega-7, there is a plant-based oil that is a great multivitamin and has a high level of omega-7s and other EFAs: sea buckthorn oil!

What Is Sea Buckthorn Oil?

Sea buckthorn may sound like a type of seaweed or species of sea cucumber, but it’s actually just a plant with a cool name!

Sea buckthorns are bushes that grow in the mountainous and coastal regions of Eurasia. The oil is extracted from the berries and seeds cultivated from the shrubs, and have been used for centuries by civilizations as a natural medicine for both skin and general health.

In addition to being abundant in omega 7 (also known as palmitoleic acid), sea buckthorn oil has a number of other fatty acids and vitamins including omegas 3 and 6 and vitamins A, B, C, and E!

Benefits of Sea Buckthorn Oil for Dogs

Sea buckthorn oil is a great way to give your dog an EFA and vitamin-packed health boost, naturally! Here are some of the ways they can benefit from the healing properties of this ancient medicine:

  • Skincare and Haircare. The omega-7 fatty acid in sea buckthorn oil helps to keep your dog’s skin hydrated, while vitamins C and E help to keep their coats shiny and healthy!
  • Heart Health. Omega-7 is a polyunsaturated fat that helps to keep the artery passages clear and make it easier for blood to flow through the cardiovascular system.
  • Allergies. In addition to being high in antioxidants, sea buckthorn oil also contains omega-3, which can help your pup fight the inflammatory response to allergens!
  • Brain Health. Rich in all the important omega and vitamins, sea buckthorn oil can help support the health and function of your pup’s brain!

Be sure to visit SeaBuck 7 at www.seabuck.com, SIBU’s sister company with a focus on sea buckthorn benefits for our animal friends! Get your Omega 7 Oil and Sea Buckthorn Balm for your dog today!

Conclusion

While this supplement may not be available at your local big-name pet or grocery stores, there are many brands online that offer sea buckthorn products specifically for animals. Like any supplement, it is best to consult your pet’s veterinarian and assess their health needs before administering a new component to their lifestyle. Overall, sea buckthorn oil is a perfect all-natural, multi-functional supplement for your dog (and for you!) that is plant-based and sustainable!
